Dohr Street Residence
Having outgrown their bungalow, the owners asked us to create a bright, calm, and spacious environment where the family could interact more, while still enjoying individual privacy.
We refurbished and opened up the existing spaces in the home, and added a rear horizontal addition that allowed us to enlarge the kitchen, add a master suite, and create a lowered family room that spills onto the rear deck and yard.
Sophisticated details bring this project to life. We maintained the original coffered dining room ceiling but painted all of the dark-stained woodwork white to brighten and enliven the space. New built-ins echo the original cabinetry, including a storage bench that delineates the living and dining rooms while providing a place for musical gatherings.
Translucent cabinets, a new pass-through, and a larger doorway between the dining room and kitchen link the front and the back of the house. Skylights in the kitchen and over the children’s bathtub flood the center of the home with calm, diffused daylight.
