A second-story vertical addition to this compact home preserved the rear yard, while arranging the sleeping spaces on the upper level. This allowed us to open up the first floor and create a bright, livable layout for a modern family, with a clean flow from the front door to the backyard. The heart of the house is a large kitchen and dining area that can accommodate multiple cooks and easy, informal gatherings.

We ensured that everything is a perfect fit for the owners. In the kitchen, a low section of marble countertop is perfect for baking. Windows between the countertop and upper cabinets bring in light while maximizing storage. Along the new stairway, a custom step chest showcases the family’s treasures.
